Hexagon-R is a Global Electronic Banking system for the HSBC Corporate Bank, which uses the HSBC Groups Global Data Network.  It facilitates corporate clients to make Payments, ensure effective Cash Management, keep record of Account Balances, manage Liquidity in terms of Cash Concentration and Pooling, Manage and Control Accounts.  Hexagon-R is a Smartcard-based, state-of-the-art digital certificate technology 128-bit encryption to protect data moving between the customer and the bank.

There are three Tiers in this System. The Tier2 lies between Tier1 (GUI in MS Visual Basic) and Tier3 (Mainframe).  The Tier2 (SECURITY layer) authorizes the messages passed to Tier3.  The Tier2 Servers were Windows NT Servers and the components are in Visual Basic and Visual C++.  Since, Windows NT support was terminated, the migration from Windows NT to Windows 2003 was planned.  The old components were rewritten in C#.  Also new components compatible to new hardware were developed.

The VISTA system is designed to deliver MI reporting for any Group site and is based on core data standards with the flexibility for sites to supplement these with local data requirements within the core framework.  The VISTA functionality covers:

§  The processing required for taking basic GL and customer/product data and producing the necessary level of MI.

§  Sites which already developed elements of this processing (e.g. Transfer pricing, OU mapping, segmentation, risk weighted assets) may choose not to use the corresponding VISTA module accordingly, but rather will feed the pre-processed data into VISTA.

The Core Interface and Client Interface are 2 major divisions of VISTA.  Data from backend (AS400 System) is moved to Core Interface DB2 database. The inputs for customizing the data are done using VB front-end screens.  Mainframe Batch processes do the customization job and put the data in the Client Interface tables in DB2 database.  Business Objects Tool is used for reporting purpose.

The workflow engine was developed using Visual Basic and Visual C++ and implemented as COM components.  The engine is deployed in COM+.  The auto generated end user application is developed in ASP.  Visual Parse++ is used for validating and defining rules for the Workflows. Microsoft Visio is invoked from within the workflow definition tool to allow the user to draw the workflow.  MSMQ is used for tracking the various events in the workflows.
